International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

The office at Lifewise Health And Disability Services is full of nurses so we had a special lunch today to celebrate International Nurses Day. Special invitation went to Joan Boughton and Biddy Deuchar, two of our clients who were registered nurses before they retired.

The nurses of our office shared stories about their training, the strict rules of nursing and of the favourite topic – nurse matrons! There were a lot of laughs as they swapped stories about helping friends to sneak out and all the trouble they used to get up to in nurses homes.

As much fun as it sounds like, everyone present reflected on the importance of nursing and the work that they did, and still do today. Compassion and the desire to help others are two of the reasons that nurses are such special people, and such a delight to work with.

Today was a superb opportunity to thank the Health And Disability Services Team: Julie, Heather, Anne, Jennie, Imelda, Jingyi, Jan, Joan and Biddy. Thanks for everything you have done!
