The Lifewise Big Sleepout is the annual fundraising event that also raises awareness about homelessness in Auckland.

Sarah Trotman is Director, Executive Education Programmes and Business Relations at AUT. It’s her 7th year as a Rough Sleeper at this event. She told us why she does it every year.

What made you decide to participate in the Lifewise Big Sleepout this year?

This is my 7th Big Sleepout. I used to own a boarding house, my tenants taught me some big life lessons. I can’t think of anything worse than being homeless and the downward spiral that would come with it.

What do you like best about the Lifewise Big Sleepout?

The spotlight it shines on the harsh realities of being homeless.

If you became homeless, what’s the one thing you’d miss most?

A place of my own to reflect and recharge.

The Lifewise Big Sleepout is on 7 July 2016.
