The Lifewise Big Sleepout is the annual fundraising event that also raises awareness about homelessness in Auckland.

Rupal Chiragsinh Solanki, who was crowned Mrs India NZ in 2015, is a first-time Rough Sleeper. These are here thoughts about homelessness.

What made you decide to participate in the Lifewise Big Sleepout this year?

Like everyone I too always feel sad and sympathise when I see the homeless, I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something about that, Then I realized I AM SOMEBODY.

I decided to participate because the homeless don’t need coins they need CHANGE. The world needs more givers than takers.

What do you like best about the Lifewise Big Sleepout?

Telling someone you care about them and not doing anything to prove that is a waste. So I liked this idea of actually having a taste of one homeless night, the feeling of disconnecting yourself from your loved ones and comforts of a cozy night; the idea of putting yourself in someone else’s shoes to fundraise for them.

If you became homeless, what’s the one thing you’d miss most?

I will miss the safety, peace, and the sense of belonging.

The Lifewise Big Sleepout is on 7 July 2016.
