It is Men’s Health Week. So we would like to introduce you to our Men’s Group, one of our community meetups within Lifewise’s Health and Disability Service.

Led by our Social Connector, Wayne Campbell, the group meets fortnightly to catch up and chat about what’s been going on in their lives. Not only is it an opportunity for a cuppa and a biscuit but it provides a safe environment to talk and listen.

We see the importance of this. Over 40% of clients in our older persons service have expressed a desire to feel more socially connected. That is why Lifewise is exploring new options to try and help out, such as our awesome men’s group.

Wayne Campbell, our Social Connector in Health and Disability, says, “Our fortnightly meetings are low key, light-hearted and supportive. The guys share past and current experiences, talk about what is happening locally and share jokes. Recent research has shown that social connectedness benefits physical, mental, and social health as the group reinforces a health and wellness positive approach.”

And the results are overwhelmingly positive! Here’s some feedback we have received from participants and their families

“It is the highlight of his fortnight,” says one family member, “he really enjoys the company.”

One of the participants says, “We have met for over two years, and there has never been any negativity.”
