The Loneliness Project

Here’s one of our new community-based innovation projects for our older persons service.

What is The Loneliness Project?

We know loneliness is a very real problem for up to 40% of our clients in our older persons service. We are exploring new options to try and help.

One of those new options is a “Men’s Group”. The group meets fortnightly and numbers are growing. We have received positive feedback about the effect this group has had on the men who attend. We plan to replicate this model across our region in Auckland with mixed gender groups as well.

Why The Loneliness Project is needed

Lifewise supports over 1,000 people across the Auckland DHB area to live well and independently in their own homes. We hold contracts to provide support such as light housework, showering and preparing meals. Our Homecare workers can be in people’s homes from daily to once a fortnight depending on the need.

What our clients tell us is that the company and social connection that our staff bring is just as important as what we are contracted to provide. That is why we decided to find out more about loneliness and isolation amongst our clients and co-designed an innovative support solution.

Safety is a priority in this essential service

While Auckland is at COVID-19 Alert Level 1, please continue to keep hygiene front-of-mind. Track where you have been and wear a mask if you can. Our teams will continue to work with our existing clients.
If you are an employee who needs to register with Healthline for leave payment due to self-isolation, please register at https://healthy.org.nz. Do not ring Healthline.
