A gift in your Will to Lifewise is invaluable. It will change the lives of Aucklanders living in poverty and hardship.
There is a simple way you can ensure that Lifewise is still there for the Aucklanders who need us most. By leaving a gift to Lifewise in your Will, you can reach out to those in need and enable us to continue turning lives around for years to come.
Whatever you give, in our hands it will go a long way. Your gift could:
- Provide safe and happy foster homes for children
- Support homeless Aucklanders to find a home
- Assist elderly Aucklanders to remain independent and living in their home
- Provide parents with the education and support they need to be the best parents they can be
- Help people to access mental health and addiction services
- Provide early childhood education to children who need it most
“I’d been supporting Lifewise for a few years now as I truly believe in the work they’re doing and want to help. It’s not a large amount by any means but regardless, I know they spend my donations carefully so when I updated my Will last year I also included a bequest, or gift in my Will to Lifewise.
“I’m not wealthy I’m just an ordinary New Zealander who understands that bequests are an important source of income for Lifewise. They are essential to ensuring services can continue.
“I have faith that my gift will be spent wisely even though I won’t be there to see it. Although I hope it will be a while before they receive it!”
– Mr J. Scott, Mount Eden
Why does Lifewise need bequests?
The need for our work is greater than ever. But with everyday crises to tackle, it is difficult and often impractical to reserve funding for future events.
Bequests enable Lifewise to commit to longer term programmes such as implementing the Housing First model to end homelessness in Auckland. Your bequest will ensure that Lifewise always has the financial resources to respond to issues that affect New Zealanders in need.
This is our promise to you when leaving a gift in your Will to Lifewise.

How to leave a gift to Lifewise in your Will
You don’t have to be wealthy to leave a gift in your will. Lifewise understands that you will want to make provision for your loved ones first. But please be assured that a gift of any size will be appreciated and, in our hands, will make a difference to many Aucklanders in need.
Leaving a gift in your will to Lifewise is straightforward. You may not even need to make a whole new will.
We recommend that you discuss your plans with your loved ones so they are aware of the reasons for your decision to leave a gift to Lifewise in your Will.
There are several different ways you may choose to leave a gift to Lifewise. These are:
After your loved ones have been provided for and all of your debts and estate administration costs have been paid, you can make a gift out of whatever is left. You could also make the gift a percentage of whatever is left: This is the best way to keep your gift to Lifewise inflation-proof. It also means you don’t need to put a precise value on your gift.
This is where you gift a nominated amount of money to The Lifewise Trust in your will.
This is when you choose to give a specific item of value (company shares, or a house for example) to Lifewise in your will.
Please discuss which option is best for you with your Lawyer or Public Trust office.
Make a time to meet with your Lawyer or Public Trust office. It is usually very straightforward to include a gift to us in your will. If you have an existing will you may just require a codicil that provides an update of your wishes.
At that meeting your legal advisor will need to know our preferred wording, we suggest:
“I give The Lifewise Trust …
The rest and residue of my estate … (or)
_____ percent of my estate … (or)
_____ percent of the residue of my estate … (or)
The sum of $_______.
Free of all duties and testamentary expenses for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of that organisation shall be sufficient discharge to my executors for this bequest.”
Lifewise can’t thank you enough for your consideration of leaving a gift to enable us to continue the vital work we do long into the future. No matter how much you leave, we will be eternally grateful and we promise to put it to good use, helping to build a fairer New Zealand free from poverty and hardship.
Thanks to the support from your bequest, we can continue to help New Zealanders for years to come.
