Neighbours Day

Turning Streets into Neighbourhoods

24 - 25 March 2012

Great neighbours make neighbourhoods healthy, fun and vibrant places to live. So Lifewise wants to encourage people throughout New Zealand to get to know their neighbours.

After successfully piloting Neighbours Day in Auckland in late 2009, Lifewise is now working with Inspiring Communitie, the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand and Neighbourhood Support to make Neighbours Day 2012 something that all New Zealanders can get involved in.

To find out more, visit the Neighbours Day Aotearoa campaign website. It's packed with tips and resources to get you started.

Lifewise deals with the fallout of social issues such as child abuse, family violence, isolation and poverty every day. We believe that strong neighbourhoods, where people know and support one another, can help to reduce these issues, making a significant difference to our society.

Food co-operatives, carpooling, shared childcare, new parent groups, dog-walking, house-minding, community gardens, not to mention street BBQs and new friendships - these are just a few of the things that can happen when neighbours know each other.

The first Neighbours Day took place in Auckland on October 17th 2009 and it was a great success. TVNZ's Asia Downunder was on hand to film one street gathering on Auckland's North Shore.
